Amiga Format picture of the month - August 1991.
This is one of those Amiga Format images that look like they were made in HAM mode, but only uses 32 colors.
Also note the attempt to dither the color banding rings in the center of the image. Looks like someone tried to optimize the image, but ran out of time before it was submitted to Amiga Format.
The Vaug Interceptor Turbo is actually the Honda NSX (or Acura NSX) from 1990.
The Taraco Neoroder Turbo is actually the Alfa Romeo SZ (Sprint Zagato) from 1989.
The Retron Parsec Turbo is actually the Cizeta-Moroder V16T from 1991, designed by Marcello Gandini, who also designed the Lamborghini Diablo (hence the similarities).
1st in the The Gathering 1993 Graphics competition.
The iconic Tutankhamun mask used as cover for many Deluxe Paint versions.
The Amiga AGA version looks like it was created by smearing around the golden parts with the Deluxe Paint smudge tool.
Not really a high class way of upgrading an image.

The eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed that the colors in the palette are duplicated...
...and if we set the upper 128 colors to white we can see a hidden message.
Used in the demo "Planet Dust" by "Artwork"
The ending screen is identical to the level 2 loading screen.
Only the winged beasts are missing here.
This image is identical to the menu background.
The tiles from which the backgrounds in Fusion are created are quite special. The game used quite large 32x32 pixel tiles, but the engine was able to use special clipping and masking techniques to cut out and mix the available tiles to form many different edge parts, cross disolves and special effects on the fly.
This was probably also the reason for the small viewing window that the player was granted (just 288x128 pixels) and the relatively slow framerate.

This is the official boot screen from Commodore's CDTV Amiga. It differs a bit from the Anim version that is circulating the web, possibly because of size constraints within the boot roms.
It doesn't work that well as gif animation as most browsers don't play it back at the correct speed.

Showing a rendition of Wayne Schmidt's 1987 C64 artwork called "Serene".
The variation with rider is a little strange, since the motorcycle seems to be slightly color reduced, despite the rider himself not really needing/using any additional colors. I currently can't say if Jim did this variation himself or for what this version was used for.
This is an office scene that was included in Ports of Call. It matches the Office 3D image closely, but uses fewer colors an has less details.
This image looks like an extended version of an image used in the game Ports of Call.
Most notable changes are the larger screen area and the increase in colors used.
Jim re-used the title picture for Ports of Call in his abandoned [link=/game/20000LeaguesUnderTheSea.html]20.000 Leagues under the Sea[/link] project.
The german magazine Amiga Magazin did an article on Jim Sachs in their August 1989 issue. They previewed a screen from the project, while it was still in development, and you can clearly see the same sky, mountains and buildings.
Used in TRSi's "Time Zone" demo
First, I drew a grid that would be a guide for my color-cycling landscape, and used several shades of tan all in the same row on my palette, so when I cycled them, the ground would appear to move.
Then, I added the mountains to the back-ground, far in the distance, so they wouldn't interfere with the illusion of movement.
Next I traced the hotdog from my sketchbook onto the screen, and laid in the basic colors using the Fill option. Then I used a single-pixel brush to create shading and reflections.
After about an hour or so of tweaking and fine-tuning, the image was finished - just in time to get home for dinner.

The standard Thalion logo with droplets randomly running down the screen.
The U.S. version was called "Chamber Of The Sci-Mutant Priestess".
The new logo, as well as the removal of the "Kult" logo, was probably not done by Michel Rho.

Alternative version of the hires logo with only half the colors of the normal logo and somewhat poorly edited background.
Used in the game Assassin.
The first two games were released under the name "Team 7". After merging with "17-Bit Software" the company was renamed to "Team 17".
This image is split into three segments with 16 colors each: The sky, the horizon and the water. This way the image has 38 colors but only uses 16 palette entries or 4 bitplanes, leaving the 5th bitplane for the ending titles.
And so the cicle ends. The prophesy is fulfilled and Zoras is destroyed, his essence banished to the deepest pits of hell.
And in their joy, the people rise up as one, declaring you to be the true ruler and saviour of the northern kingdoms.
And as the light returns, the legion of darkness called up by Zoras' magic slithers back into the shadows...
Ending screen
Interestingly the title and ending screens aren't just re-colored versions of one another. Some elements actually shift around a bit and the town, castle and environment changes quite a bit to visualize the change from the dark nightmarish beginning to the happy sunny ending.
